Apple Day Saturday October 23 10am-2pm, Old Market Place, Hitchin Town Centre. Apple day is when we celebrate the nation’s favourite fruit, and promote the concept of buying locally in season, growing your own, and living sustainably. Hitchin’s first Apple Day was in 2003 and we have been celebrating it in the old market place ever since. Browse the vibrant collection of local food and environment stalls, taste and buy a wide range of unusual and traditional apples, be tempted by delicious home-made apple/pear cakes, stock up on local apple juice, have fun with children’s activities, and support this great local event. Need some advice on getting the most out of the unidentified apple tree in your garden? Want to know what variety it is? Michael Clark, our apple expert from Tewin Orchard, has kindly offered to give free advice. Please bring along three fruit plus some twig and leaves. Volunteers are needed to help bake cakes and run stalls - please call Rachel on 642011 or Sandra on 451658 if you can help. Many thanks.
