all age, all ability community gardening

       The Triangle Community Garden, Hitchin

created and cultivated by people of all ages and abilities at Ransom's Rec, Grove Road, Hitchin

  Ransom's Pavilion workshop

The Ransom’s Rec sports pavilion is central to the park at the end of Alexandra Road and was used for years as football changing rooms. It has now been renovated to provide sports changing for home and away teams in the south wing, and a community workshop/classroom/meeting space with kitchen and toilets in the north wing.

The new workshop facilities are managed by the Triangle Garden and will be available for community hire on mornings, afternoons and evenings, when not in use by the Triangle Garden and its partner projects.

During the week the Pavilion provides an indoor base for our Growing Ability and Growing Clearer Minds projects. On weekends we run workshops with a focus on sustainable living, horticulture, food growing, woodwork and traditional crafts. The pavilion also provides an invaluable resource for our weekend volunteer sessions and will also be used to host educational visits for local school groups. It also means we at last have tea and coffee making facilities on site and may possibly be able to set up a community cafe in the Rec!

We are very grateful for the hard work and commitment of North Herts District Council officers and Councillors for making this renovation happen, and for the funding provided by NHDC and WREN, the landfill tax charity Waste Recycling Environmental. In particular we'd like to thank the Hitchin Area Committee for supporting the project and helping to fund the essential fitting out. Lastly a big thank you to all the individuals and organisations who wrote letters of support or signed our online petition, which enabled us to convince the funders that this project was worth funding. We hope you will reap the benefits of the great new community resource.
