Funding success for rebuilding our raised beds and Wifi at the Pavilion!

We’re delighted to announce that our funding bid for £1000 to Herts County Council’s 2017-18 Locality fund has been approved by Cllrs Judi Billing and Derrick Ashley (thank you Councillors!) and we now have the funds to buy the materials to rebuild our raised allotment beds. And thanks to a fantastic offer by a local building company we have the volunteers to help build them – more about this next week.

We built the original raised beds in 2007 with money from Waitrose community fund, but after 10 years solid performance they have begun to rot to the point where they need rebuilding with new timber. The beds provide the growing space used by our Growing Ability and Growing Health projects for adults with learning disabilities (see pic above). The pictures below shows how they looked when first built on our reclaimed allotment, and before we started to mark out where they needed to go.

As well as the new timber, the funding will also go towards providing a mobile phone for our Project Manager and Wifi at the Pavilion. We hope that the latter will encourage more community groups to hire the venue for evening meetings and workshops. If you’re interested in finding out more about Pavilion hire please click here.
