Nothing could dampen our spirits for Open Day this year!

If you missed our recent Open Day here is a short film that sums up the fun, made by one of our Garden Club volunteers Alan Hodgson:

Despite the odd shower, we had a lovely afternoon with lots of fun activities for all ages including pond gazing, welly-wanging, junior archery, kids’ crafts, global food stalls including Cantina Carnitas, cream teas, cakes, a great plant stall and an outdoor exhibition of our beautiful butterfly prints! (available to buy here).

This year, visitors were treated to a special surprise: prolific local knitters Hitchin Stitchin and Woolly Chic teamed up to ‘yarnbomb’ the Triangle Garden with a creative knitted extravaganza even wilder than their Hitchin Churchyard installation last summer. Following hot on the heels of International Yarnbombing day, the event promoted Festiwool, Hitchin’s own Yarn and Wool Fair to be held in November. We were delighted to see the garden adorned with wool. It was a lovely addition to our Open Day and made it very special. We plan to put together a short slideshow of best pics of the yarn-bombed garden, so do send us yours (over 500KB please) to Vicky at [email protected]

Our annual Open Day supports the Triangle Community Garden and its projects including Growing Ability: social and therapeutic horticulture for people with learning disabilities. We are always keen to accept offers of help from people who want to give something back to their community – please contact our Project Manager Liz McElroy via [email protected] if you’d like to volunteer in any way, or if your community group would like to take part in the entertainment next year.
