Our first Summer Garden Party!

On Sunday 10th July we held our first ever Summer Garden Party – an Open Garden morning to showcase our sites at Ransom’s Rec, Hitchin, and the great work that goes on there. Despite the soaring temperatures the event was a great success, drawing in the local community to share and enjoy the garden and its growing plots, and find out about our horticulture therapy projects Growing Ability, New Shoots and Garden Club.

There were sales of plants and produce, home-made refreshments, nature-based children’s activities and crafts stalls by local makers who run workshops from the TCG’s base at Ransom’s Pavilion such as Kimprints  Tuuli Parker Artist and Natures Rainbow

Sustainability and biodiversity advice was also on hand from Plastic Free Hitchin and Hitchin Nature Network with honey on sale from BuzzWorks Association Hitchin.

Entertainment was provided by local artists Tegan and Alfie, Scarlett Star and Amaya Lucas who played throughout the morning. Demonstrations and tours were given by The Hitchin Forager,  Natures Rainbow plant dyers, and Triangle Garden staff, who shared their wealth of knowledge of the garden and its well-loved projects.

This year’s event was a deliberate departure from previous open days, with a much stronger focus on the community garden itself. We were delighted with the outcome in that it provided an opportunity for the public to visit, enjoy the garden and find out about all the inspiring work that goes on there.

The events committee would like to thank all who attended and look forward to welcoming you and others to future events at the garden including our autumn foraging walks. Check out our What’s On page for details
