April is always a busy time for Friday Garden Club. The Forest and Community Gardens have been waking up since early spring with lovely blossom on the almond and apricot trees, ferns unfurling and sparkling blue and white anemones carpeting the ground. A few nettles and brambles are being cleared to allow shrubs, trees, herbs and perennials to hold their own against these more rampant plants.
This week we have been mostly making use of our produce!
Garden Club's principal jam maker Chris has been busy making Apricot Jam and Spicy Apricot Chutney from the Forest Garden's bounty. This will be available for sale every Friday morning along with Mary's delicious Red Grapefruit Marmalade and all our other delicious jams and preserves.
Last month members of our Garden Club took a break from caring for the Triangle Garden, to do a little planting in Hitchin town centre. Having seen the effect our green fingers have had on the Church House Courtyard Garden, Hitchin Initiative commissioned us to design and install a planting scheme in the two sad old brick planters outside Next on the High Street.
